How to recognize an authentic perfume

Short answer: check the seal, batch code, and authenticity marks, and avoid using the product when anything does not match. The most reliable protection against fakes is still buying through an authorized seller with traceable sourcing.

  1. Check the packaging and seal

    Genuine perfumes come with tightly fitted cellophane wrap, crisp printing with no smudged letters, and a quality box with clean labels. Crooked fonts, cheap paper, spelling mistakes, or missing wrap are red flags.

  2. Compare the batch code

    Find the batch code on the base of the bottle and on the box - on genuine products they match. You can check the code in an online batch-code checker to see the production date.

  3. Scan the authenticity marks

    More brands now add holographic stickers and verification QR codes. Lattafa, for example, uses a 3D holographic label with a QR code that must lead exactly to verify.lattafa.com. Scan it and confirm the address matches exactly.

  4. Pay attention to scent and longevity

    Fakes often smell overly alcoholic at first, develop "flat," and disappear within an hour or two. The original unfolds top, middle, and base notes and lasts according to its concentration (EDT 3–4h, EDP 6–8h).

  5. Buy from an authorized seller
